Mount Abu the picturesque hill station of Rajasthan, is immensely popular among tourists in India and abroad. Situated at an average height of 1219m above sea level, Mount Abu is a part of Sirohi district of Rajasthan. This region had its importance since historical times as a central part of the Rajputana and had maintained its “Summer Capital” status till the British era.

The highest point of Mount Abu, Guru Shikhar is an amazing sunrise point. The mythologically famous Nakki Lake is also a tourist attraction. It is a holy lake and thousands of devotees pay a visit just to touch the holy water. The Sunset Point gives an amazing view of the entire Mount Abu. Best Time to Visit Mount Abu

Being a hill station, Mount Abu is blessed with a pleasant weather through out the year. Due to the dense forest on the Aravalli range which is running through the place, the region tends to maintain its cool, although being a part of torrid Rajasthan. Hence tourists can visit any time of the year and enjoy a comfortable stay over here. Best time to visit is generally during mid-March to June end and again mid-September to December. Its better to avoid the monsoons, as it rains pretty heavily at times, which in turn makes the roads bad and dangerous. One can expect a temperature within 30o- 10o all the time. Winters are very cold and it is advisable to carry heavy woolens.

Being an admired tourist destination, the government and administrative authorities of Mount Abu have set up many entertainment avenues across the region. Tourists can go on adventure tourism in the dense forest of Aravalli range, or enjoy a quiet walk among the serene nature. There are various trekking trails to admire the thrill. Moreover, Mount Abu administration has kept boating facilities on the lazy waters of Nakki lake.

Like the entire Rajasthan, Mount Abu attracts tourists who want to go on a shopping spree. Authentic Kota sarees and Lahariyas are a must buy over here. The state government has made few handloom and handicrafts emporiums selling junk jewellery, marble artworks, sandstone souvenirs, colourful bangles, Bandni handlooms and local paintings to the tourists. The shopping area around Nakki lake is very famous.

Mount Abu offers various cuisines including traditional Rajasthani food along with Chinese, Continental, North Indian cuisines. Presently one can find Pizza outlets, cafeterias and bakeries present in the hill station. Few of the renowned restaurants are namely, Mukberry Tree Restaurant, Dawat, Arbuda Restaurant, Sher-e-Punjab, Kanak Dining Hall etc. There are many more good and budgeted restaurants. Few good cafes are Café Shikibo, Café Coffee Day etc.

How to Reach  

Being a popular tourist destination, Mount Abu is very well connected by roads with all parts of India. The main road connecting the hill station with the plains is Abu Road. The nearest railway station is only 28kms away from the main city, and has trains connecting Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur and Ahmedabad. From the station taxi and auto services are available. NH14 is just 24 kms away from Abu Road. Udaipur and Ahmedabad airports are the nearest ones and cab services are available from there. Many travel agents have their travel offices across the hill station, helping tourists with various travel programs.
