History of Shri Raghunathji Temple

Dedicated to Shri Raghunathji, an avatar of Lord Vishnu and also the residing deity over here, this temple is known for its interesting history. Legend has it that once upon a time, a beautiful princess resided in this region. She had a stepmother who did not agree of her love affair with the ruling King’s son in Mount Abu. It is believed that since she could not marry her lover, she died young and a temple was constructed here, next to the lake, to honor her memory. However, according to another legend, it is believed that the temple was constructed during the 14th century AD by a well-known Hindu scholar - Shri Ramanand, who was considered a great preacher during that time.

One of the most beautiful temples in Mount Abu, Shri Raghunathji Temple is an eminent site for Hindu pilgrims. Gracefully designed with several wall inscriptions and delicate paintings and carvings, this temple is a perfect example of the rich cultural and architectural heritage of Mewar. The dazzling idol of Shri Raghunathji is placed at the center of the temple, which is also the main attraction over here.

It is believed that a visit to this temple is supposed to free the pilgrim from all his/her pains and problems in life. Therefore, visitors and devotees from all over the country descend to this temple to pay their respects to the great lord.
