The local cuisine offers a variety of dishes, all with high level of spice, ghee, milk and butter. Due to the dry climatic condition of the state, more quantity of milk and butter milk are used in place of water. Fresh green vegetables are also rarely cooked. Rather dried lentils and beans are hugely used in different dishes. Few of the local delicacies often tried by tourists are “Pakori” and “Gatte ki Sabzi”.
Different types of chutneys mostly hot, are made using coriander, turmeric, garlic and mint. The best known traditional dish is “Daal Bati Churma” which is immensely popular among the tourists. There are many other local dishes which are a must try while visiting Mount Abu. They are namely, Bail-gatte, Besan chakki, Balusahi, Chaavadi, Googri, Laapasi among many others. Few local curries are hot selling items in the restaurants. They are in general spicy in nature, as locals feel spice is a must to bear the natural heat. Some of the famous curries are Kikoda ki sabji, Kicha ki sabji, Gajar ki sabji, Beans ki sabji, Karela ki sabji and Guwar fali ki saag.

An enormous variety of sweets are relished by the tourists, who are trying local cuisine. “Ghewar” a popular sweet consisting of rounded cakes of wheat flour on which sugar syrup is poured, is found in almost all the restaurants of Mount Abu. Rajasthani Thalis are also a treat for the taste buds, and are not to be missed.
Few well known restaurants serving different traditional Rajasthan delicacies are, Dawat, Arbuda Restaurant, Honest Restaurant, Kanak Dining Hall, Jaipur Palace, Hariyali-the Garden Restaurant and Saraswati Dining.
For a weary traveller it is advised to try on a local quencher “Makhaniya Lassi.” This popular drink is made of yoghurt, ice cold water and sugar and topped with homemade cream with cashew nuts, pistachios and saffron garnishing. Bael Juice, Chaach, Aam Panna and Thadai are also a must try.
Apart from traditional cuisine, tourists can try restaurants serving various other cuisines like Arbuda Restaurant is popular for its Gujrati thalis and continental breakfast. King’s Food serves amazing Punjabi, Chinese and South Indian recipes.
Being a well known tourist destination, Mount Abu is visited by many foreign national, which has in turn developed few café and pizza parlours.
